Last year my mom took me, Bethany, and my sister on a family vacation to St. Martin/Sint Maarten in the Caribbean and it was INCREDIBLE! We went to the island almost specifically for Maho Beach that sits right underneath the landing strip for the local airport. That beach alone was quite the experience. There are a lot of clips in the video where you can see how close the planes were coming to the beach, but when planes were taking off, that’s when things got real crazy. There is one clip where I attempted to hold the camera and record one of the big planes taking off, and I feel like I managed to do pretty good job for the amount of people that were just completely running away! Bethany ended up just getting forced straight into the water because the jets were so strong!
Some other favorites from the trip were Mullet Bay and the beach on the French side in the Grand Case area. Mullet Bay was literally around the block from where we were staying and while there were some huge waves, it was the clearest ocean water I think I’ve ever seen! The Grand Case area had super relaxing water with no waves at all and green mountains all around. One of the most stress free environments I’ve ever been in, so I know Bethany loved it! The one last place I’ll mention was the private beach area right below where we were staying called Cupecoy Beach. I can’t tell you how incredible it was to have your own private perfect beach just a staircase from your house. Enjoy the pictures and video, and thanks mom for the trip!
There are certainly a TON of pictures from the trip too. We took our Nikon D700 specifically for pictures and not video. You can check them out on the old two times photography’s blog here!
We hadn’t been using our little Sony RX-100 camera very long and this was our first outing with the underwater case, so it may not be the best video ever, but I think the shots of gigantic planes flying so close to you and blowing you away when they were taking off was enough to make a video out of the trip!
